Australia Subclass 462 Ballot: What Indian Applicants Need to Know

12 July 20267 min readBy the KVR Global Solutions team

Indian passport holders access Australia's Work and Holiday visa through a pre-application ballot. Understanding the sequence keeps you from missing a whole year.

How the ballot works

Registration opens for a limited window each programme year. You submit a short registration and pay a small ballot fee; selection is random among valid registrations. Being selected is an invitation to apply — it is not the visa itself.

After selection

Selected applicants receive a window in which to lodge the full Subclass 462 application with supporting documents: passport, funds evidence, functional English, educational qualification and health/character requirements.

  • Prepare documents before the ballot result, not after
  • Funds evidence must be genuine and in your own name
  • Only lodge inside your invitation window — it does not roll over

The agriculture pathway

Specified agricultural work in regional Australia can support eligibility for subsequent Work and Holiday stays. Dairy, horticulture, viticulture, beef, sheep and equine placements are the most common routes our candidates take.
